History Lesson, Janet Hodgson - Exhibition Catalogue
Catalogue of Janet Hodgson's artwork, published for the exhibition History Lesson at Bluecoat Gallery held 6th March to 17th April 1999. In History Lesson, Hodgson begins with a well-known local fact; that the Bluecoat Gallery used to be a school. She uses this fact of building's past as a starting point for an artwork which is intimately involved with the visitor's experience of its present. Placing nothing but eight video projectors in the gallery, she projects into it eight films of itself; first showing the gallery as it is, then the process of converting it into what it might once have been.
