Liberty Buildings - Tote Bag

'Charles Reilly, head of University of Liverpool’s School of Architecture moved his department to the Bluecoat in 1909, where it stayed for nine years. He persuaded the soap magnate, William Lever (later the first Lord Leverhulme) to purchase the former school building where a group of artists, the Sandon Studios Society had already taken up residence. As shown in this drawing by architect Stanley Adshead and student Harold Charlton Bradshaw, the building was renamed ‘Liberty Buildings’, apparently a reference to Lever’s successful libel action against the Daily Mail.'
