Bluecoat, Liverpool: The UK's first arts centre - Publication
Following on from the Bluecoat's tercentenary in 2017, this publication charts the history of central Liverpool's oldest building. Following a chapter on the building's origins as a charity school founded in the port's colonial era, the rest of the book focuses on its development in the twentieth century as the UK's first arts centre. Contributing writers Gavin Davenport, Anjalie Dala-Clayton, Julie Sheldon, Roger Hill, Panayiota Vassilopoulou and Paul Jones, as well as the editors, cover a range of topics including the Bluecoat's progressive art beginnings, music and performance programmes, its exhibitions history, academic residencies, and the arts centre's civic role.
